When Winter Storm Uri began to devastate the Houston community with prolonged power and water outages, Mattress Mack opened the 6006 N. Freeway GF showroom as a warming shelter.

Hurricane Harvey

Perhaps Mack’s most well-known efforts in community outreach are the ways in which he gave back to the Houston area during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Christmas Giveaway

Mack’s strong sense of community and the general wellness and comfort of his fellow Houstonians is what inspired Gallery Furniture’s Annual Christmas Giveaway. On Christmas Eve 1983, moved by the holiday spirit, Mack decided to deliver furniture to families in need who lived in the area surrounding his store on I-45 North.

COVID-19 Relief Efforts

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Mattress Mack stepped up to ensure the safety and well-being of his fellow Houstonians. Throughout this challenging time, over 25,000 senior care packages were delivered to our most vulnerable community members by Gallery Furniture employees and volunteers.

Peace of Mind Foundation

Helping to erase the stigma surrounding mental illness is important to Mattress Mack. His personal experience with his daughter Elizabeth’s Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) inspired Mack and his wife Linda, along with Elizabeth, to establish the Peace of Mind Foundation.

Mack’s work on special projects has even helped to build the first Mobile Stroke Unit in the USA for patients in Houston and raised millions for the Bush-Clinton Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund. He works closely with military veterans organizations, including USO and The PTSD Foundation of America, to offer support and recognition to those who have served the United States of America. Mack also prioritizes the success of his neighbors in the Houston area, which has led him to work with organizations such as ACE Scholarships and Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide disadvantaged families the opportunity to thrive.
