Michele S. from Houston, TX was furnishing her high rise condo on the waterfront of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Bedside Blog: Hästens Wrap Up

Comfort and quality are two things that stand out about the entire line of Hästens beds. That's why Gallery Furniture is happy to be your Houston furniture store for Hastens. I've asked two of the Marketing and Internet team to test rest the all-natural Hastens beds for a month. Gil has had the Hastens Superia for four weeks, and Hamilton has had the Hastens Excel with a BJX topper for the same period. Here is Hamilton's wrap up report.

Mack, after four weeks with the Hästens, I'm still feeling the same amazement I had the first night. This is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.  There is no comparision between it and my old Stearnes & Foster. When we bought the old bed we thought we were buying a high quality, high comfort mattress and foundation. And when all we had to compare to it was the cheaper mattresses we'd had in the past, we were happy. But my wife Debra and I found a new level of comfort with the Hastens. The Excel is as much better than the Stearnes & Foster as the S&F was to the mattress that came before it.

In an earlier post I listed a number of reasons we like the Hastens Excel. They are still true.

I sleep through the night much more often than in the old bed. Debra and I are not waking up in the middle of the night like we used to. That's probably because we are more comfortable and don't toss and turn a lot. In fact, I must not move at all some nights, waking in the same position I was in when I went to bed and with my hair flattened on one side of my head.

I don't have morning aches and pains like I used to. Not that I don't have a few, but those can be blamed on age, not the bed. The BJX topper acts as a soft cushion that cradles the body while the mattress portion of the bed uses individual pocketed springs to provide support. It is a feeling that has to be experienced.

I don't wake up drenched in sweat or clammy. I give the credit for that to the air flow through the BJX topper. My skin doesn't overheat from contact with a mattress that doesn't "breathe." Hästens says the horsehair used to fill the BJX topper is a natural wicking material, quickly pulling any night time perspiration away from your skin.

After four weeks, I'm glad we got the medium Excel instead of the firm. It is indeed the right bed, not too soft and not too firm. There is enough give in the mattress for comfort yet enough support. In four weeks I have not had problems with sore or stiff shoulders. I did on the old mattress often feeling like my arm was going numb when I slept on my side. No more of that on the Hastens.

I'm still crazy about the Anatomical pillows we got. These pillows are designed for side sleepers like me and they are the most comfortable pillows of that sort I've ever used. That's probably because of the down stuffing and the way air circulates through the pillow.

The craftsmanship in a Hastens bed is impressive. In my very first report I talked about how the wood work in the frame is excellent, with well-cut joints, countersunk screws, and other touches that show the people who put it together take pride in their work. Even the way the fabric covering is pun on, with the stripes in the plaid lining up perfectly with the edge of the bed, shows attention to detail and pride. That has to be a big part of the reason the Excel is so comfortable.

Debra would want me to make certain anyone considering the Hastens Excel, or any other quality bed from Hastens, knew that the bed can be dressed up beautifully. She loves comforters and pillows and all the other things that going to dressing a bed. While I would be just as comfortable with a sheet and blanket, I have to admit the bed looks good.

She would also like me to mention, I'm sure, how easy it is to change the linens on the Hastens. I've noted in earlier reports that the BJX topper is easy to fluff and turn so there's no excuse for not doing it every week. With our old bed, flipping the mattress was a two person job and something to dread.

There's so much to say about the Hästens that I haven't gotten to in this report. I have not written about the all-natural materials used in the mattress and foundation as well as the topper. That's an important consideration for a lot of people, especially those who worry about out-gassing from man-made materials. I haven't mentioned the all-natural way Hastens treats the beds to meet federal fire-resistance standards; there are no harsh chemicals used.

Bedside Blog: Fluff the Pillows!

Mack, my twenty-fourth night with the Hastens Excel was another night of good sleep, there just wasn't enough of it! No bed, even a bed as good as the Hästens, can make up for sleep you don't t get. At least the sleep I did get was good, I wonder how bad I would feel after a short night's sleep in a less comfortable bed.

Of course, a lot of people are missing out on sleep at this time of year, with shopping, entertaining, and all the other holiday activities underway. There will probably be several more nights to come where I'm not able to get to bed as early as I want.

Last night, the twenty-fifth night of the test, was another good night. I got as much sleep as normal, but because of the deficit from the previous night, I would love to have gotten more rest. Debra and I did a little maintenance before going to sleep last night, flipping the BJX top mattress and fluffing the pillows.

I am quite a fan of the Hastens Anatomical pillow as I have written before. Unlike a foam pillow, this one breathes and there is plenty of airflow through it. My head -- and the side of my face -- stays comfortable, not overly hot like on some pillows. After a good fluffing, the pillow has the right combination of softness and support. I've gotten in the habit of fluffing a bit every night, but once in a while it helps to take the bolster out of the pillow and fluff it up.

Tonight I plan to retire early and try to get a full night's rest. I know you can't really catch up on sleep, but I'm going to pretend you can!

Bedside Blog: Nights 22 & 23 - Hastens Means No Alarm Clock for Some!

The Gallery Funriture Marketing and Internet Boys are currently working hard testing out their new Hastens beds, Hamilton was the Hastens Excel and Gil has the Hastens Superia, both wonderful, all-natural, eco-friendly, hand-cratfed beds that are excellent examples of green furniture.  Here is Gil with his Night 22 and 23 report of his Hastens Superia.

Night 22 - Monday night was excellent in that I was able to get a full eight hours of sleep in my Hastens Superia bed with BJX topper, which was wonderful, and once again, no alarm clock was needed.  It seems that no matter how many hours of sleep I receive on the all-natural Hastens Superia (mine is silver-check pattern) that I always awake feeling refreshed - and I love that.  I never get a better night's sleep in my Houston home (and believe me, after having to spend time on my couch for a few days so my parents could move in to the bed while they were here during the Thanksgiving holidays, I know the difference) on my Hastens Superia with BJX topper.  One thing I noticed was that I stopped drinking coffee, as I always made a habit of having a cup of joe in the morning after my alarm clock woke me.  Now, with the Hastens, I think coffee took a back seat. 

Night 23 - Tuesday night in my Hastens Superia (silver check with BJX topper) was excellent again for a full 8 hours, but before going to bed, I purchased the Cuisanart COD 4000 coffee maker and some ground Stabuck's Sumatra Coffee that I purchased (one pound's worth) - Sumatra has a full, syrupy body with virtually no acidity - so the coffee's intensity lingers in your mouth. The concentrated spicy, herbal notes and earthy aroma fill my Houston home long before I rise dueto the Cuisanart COD 4000 system.  I love a good coffee and this Indonesian blend tastes great.  I decided that since now I do not need coffee to wake up, I would love to enjoy coffee for coffee's sake.  Which is what I will do from now on - now that I can enjoy the taste of the blend in my Houston home, and with the added benefit of a great night's sleep in my Hastens Superia bed form Gallery Furniture, I can absorb the morning news while actually enjoying my java.  As I am already awake and refreshed from my evening slumber in the Hastens Superia, the morning cup of coffee is now a full experience, as my sleep was a full experience from the Hastens Superia with BJX topper.  The Cuisinart COD 4000 dispenses coffee one cup at a time, and I like that.  The coffee comes out rich and delicious!  So when I woke up this morning in my Houston home refreshed and feeling great - I was able to enjoy my coffee for its rich flavor and aroma as opposed to some nasty cheap-o coffee!

After testing the all natural Hästens beds for three weeks, two member of the Internet and Marketing team at Gallery Furniture are entering the home stretch on their sleep tests. Gil is getting his rest on the Hastens Superia, while Hamilton is testing the Hastens Excel. Here is Hamilton's report on night 22 of the Hastens test.

Mack, I really do fear I am becoming something of a broken record in these reports. Last night was another great night's sleep on the Hastens Excel, with no interruptions from dogs, cats, squirrels or other wild life. Just another pleasant night spent in a warm, comfortable bed. Bedside Blog: Nights 17 - 21 in a Hastens Superia! Revenge of the Cat

"Thanks Mack, and once again, these nights have been over the top wonderful and I have been getting a fantastic night's sleep.  I have the Hastens Superia with BJX topper with the silver check finish.  I decided to make a summary of the nights and let everyone know how my sleep has been going.

Night 17 I was actually able to get to bed a great hour that Wednesday night - it was great and after I took some time cooking my signature pasta with meat sauce, it was a welcome time to relax and hit the sack early.  When I laid down in my Hastens Superia with BJX topper, I think it took all of a dozen seconds to reach a state of wonderful sleep.  I did not even bother to watch any CNN Headline News as I decided that this wonderful Houston night I was going to go ahead and sleep like a king - again - on my Hastens Superia.

Night 20 - after a great day at Gallery Furniture on Saturday, I had decided to spend the day shopping for unique one-of-a-kind ornaments all over the great city of Houston, a place home not just to Gallery Furniture but also to many of our wonderful customers.  Naturally, I hit Houston's Rice Village - the best spot in Houston for finding knick-knacks and clothes and fashionable eyeware, clothing accessories, and great food!  After much shopping, I walked away a bit thinner in the pocketbook but happy that my Christmas Tree was going to look great.  Then, it was off to 13 Celsius in Houston's midtown for some dessert and an apertif.  On the conclusion of the evening, I found that my Russian Blue, Favel, decided that he was commandeering the bed once and for all and went into attack mode in my Houston home defending the Hastens Superia with BJX topper as his own.

Night 21 - A beautiful Sunday that started with a day of cleaning and preparation for the evening - I was to have my annual tree decoration party, have some friends over to my Houston home (and yes, I did show off the Hastens Superia with BJX topper) and I got my awesome Houston Christmas Tree at the Kroger on Montrose and Hawthorne in Houston's Neartown district.  After a long day of hosting friends in welcoming the season, I went to bed early and attacked by my Russian Blue, Favel, who had decided that yes, in fact, this great all natural, eco-friendly Hastens Superia bed with BJX topper was his own.
