Famed Houston Astros and great community leader Craig Biggio stopped by Gallery Furniture on July 14th to say hi to the Gallery Furniture team and wish everyone well as Gallery Furniture moves forward to the Phase II grand opening of 09-07-09.
The Gallery Furniture family holds a high respect of Craig Biggio, as he is an embodiment of loyalty, community spirit, and also hard work. Craig had a franchise record 20 seasons with the Houston Astros, and was also the 27th player in Major League Baseball History to become a member of the 3,000 hit club. Perhaps Craig Biggio's most memorable game for Houstonians would be when on the day he announced he would be retiring, Craig went on that evening to hit a grand slam against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th inning. The Astros won that game on July 24th, 2007 against the Dodgers 7-4 and was a fitting end to a day when Houstonians became aware that this was his last season.
Craig Biggio also embodies the spirit of giving back to the local community - something close to the heart of Gallery Furniture. You see, Craig is also an advocate, supporter, and National Spokesperson of the Sunshine Kids Foundation, an organization founded in Houston in 1982 that provides free programs and events for children who are receiving cancer treatments. Craig Biggio's dedication to this cause has spanned over a decade of service, and true to the nature of Houstonians, when the MLB asked Craig o stop wearing their logo during official MLB events, the residents of Houston made a public outcry and the MLB allowed Craig Biggio to continue wearing the Sunshine Kids Foundation pin and stickers on his MLB attire.
Craig raised spirits at Gallery Furniture when he dropped by, and took time out for pictures and to talk baseball and just about how his family is doing in general. A great family man, a great baseball player, and a great member of our Houston community, Gallery Furniture is very proud to receive a visit from Craig Biggio!
